UP AT ANY TUESDAY TROOP MEETING 20 - 26 June 2010 Summer Camp Ingersoll Scout Reservation London Mills, IL Check The Back Table for camp info Sunday 20 June: Time TBD; Meet @ Church Return Saturday 26 June WE'VE NOTICED TOO MANY PARENTS SIGNING THEIR SON'S REQUIREMENTS!
In Boy Scouts, a Troop 89 adult leader verifies that a Scout has met requirements, NOT the boy’s parent as is the practice in Cub Scouts. From the Troop 89 Guidebook: "As
general guidance, if a boy’s parent is a Troop 89 adult leader, the
parent should limit approval of their own son’s requirements to
about 10% of the rank advancement requirements for any given rank and
serve as merit badge counselor for not more than three of their son’s
merit badges. By following this guideline, Troop 89 avoids any
suspicion that a Scout has failed to complete his requirements by
himself, has not received preferential treatment,..." Remember:
This means you can only sign if you, the parent, are a registered BSA
adult leader. If you are not a registered adult leader, then you are
not authorized to sign the completed requirements for your son (or any
other Scout, for that matter). Find
